ZippyTeach Ocean Board is a classroom management app made by Daniella Da Silva (ZippyTeach) for teachers. This policy explains how the app handles information. It applies to the web version and the Google Play app.
The Ocean Board is a personal classroom tool for teachers. It is for day-to-day things like behaviour points, seating, class jobs and quick notes. It is not a student records system. Anything official, such as reports, assessments or safeguarding records, belongs in your school's own approved system.
The app is designed to hold only students' first names or nicknames. Please do not enter surnames, ID or student numbers, dates of birth, photos of students, contact details, or other identifying information.
Keep notes short and factual. Do not record sensitive matters such as health, family circumstances, or safeguarding concerns in the app. Record those in your school's official system.
Our website (danzigal.github.io/ZippyTeach) counts page visits using GoatCounter, a privacy-friendly service. It records the page visited, the country, the browser type and where the visit came from, and how often the "Try the board free" button is tapped. It uses no cookies, does not track you across websites, and does not collect anything that identifies you. The Ocean Board app itself has no counting or tracking of any kind.
The app does not send anything you enter to us or to anyone else. Nothing is stored on our servers, shared or sold. There are no user accounts, no advertising, and no analytics or tracking inside the app. Once the app is loaded or installed, it works without an internet connection.
Everything you enter is saved only on the device you are using. That includes class names, students' first names, points, notes, rules, flashcards, and any pictures, music or tests you add. You can delete it at any time by clearing the app's data (or the browser's site data) or by uninstalling the app. Choosing "Reset All Data" in the app also deletes it.
If you choose "Download Backup", the app saves a file to your device containing your classes, names and notes. That file stays wherever you save it. It is never sent to us. Please keep backup files private, and delete ones you no longer need.
The Voice Meter uses the microphone to show how loud the classroom is. Sound is processed on the device in real time only. It is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere. You can allow or deny microphone access in your device or browser settings at any time.
When you print from the app, your device's built-in print system is used. What you print goes only to the printer or PDF you choose. The app does not keep a copy.
Google Play app: purchases are handled entirely by Google Play. We do not receive your payment details.
Web version: payments are handled by the payment provider you use (for example Payfast or WeChat Pay), under their own privacy policies. We do not receive your card or bank details. To send you an unlock code, we keep a record of the name and email address (or messaging contact) you give us, the number of classes you bought, and the code we sent. We use this only to deliver your code and help you with it, and we never share or sell it.
When you enter your unlock name and code in the app, they are saved on your device only, so the full version stays unlocked.
The app is for teachers to use in the classroom. It is not meant to be used by children on their own, and it does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
